How best to describe the maintenance necessary with a Synthetic Grass Warehouse synthetic lawn?

“Maintenance-free” is a correct adjective – at least compared to natural grass. Modern synthetic turf requires none of the regular maintenance, or tender loving care, that sod does. With SGW synthetic grass there’s no mowing, no watering, no fertilizing and no sweat. An artificial lawn conserves resources, time and money.

“Virtually-maintenance free” is the absolutely accurate way to describe synthetic grass. It’s not a magic carpet, so a minimum of effort is needed to, say, sweep or rake the leaves (or use a leaf blower) that fall from a tree onto the synthetic grass. For a pet turf installation, all that’s needed is occasional pick-up of solid waste and a rinse to keep the lawn nice and clean. Compared to the work involved to keep a natural lawn looking immaculate and green, every day is a day off with synthetic grass.

“Carefree” may be the best word to describe SGW turf. It looks great and performs flawlessly without everyday upkeep, day after day, year after year, guaranteed. Our synthetic lawns are guaranteed not to fade or come apart for up to 10 years – the longest manufacturer’s warranty in the industry.

Obviously in synthetic grass, the fiber is the star of the show. The appearance of the turf counts for a lot, and it’s significant to weigh the color and composition of yarn, density and pile height.

But the backing, the skeleton of the turf system, is also important (though less apparent). How a backing is manufactured and what it’s made of is essential to the performance of artificial grass.

Almost all turf is has a two-part backing system – a primary woven backing into which fibers are stitched, and a heavier secondary backing that holds the tufts in place and keeps the carpet laying flat. The composition and construction of secondary backings are worth consideration.

One great backing debate: Perforated, or non-perforated? Most secondary backings of contemporary synthetic grass are made of urethane and feature perforations, or punched holes every couple of inches, to facilitate drainage. Perforated drainage systems are typically rated at 20 inches per hour of greater. Some manufacturers have introduced non-perforated geotextile backings without perforations (in essence, woven layer melted onto the primary backing) in quest for better drainage and an antidote to pre-existing weeds that try to peek through the turf...(click below to read more)

Or maybe those dry brown spots have turned your backyard’s appearance completely upside down. It’s even possible that your lawn out front has undergone Revenge of the Weeds with no victory in sight. If any of this sounds familiar or if you have any major gripe with your front or backyard, then perhaps you are due for a lawn makeover! You’ll be surprised as to how easy it is to transform your lawn into the lawn of your dreams. If you constantly find yourself drooling over a green, healthy, lush, and clean-looking lawn (we all do), look no further than artificial grass!

“Artificial grass, really?” you may be questioning to yourself. Yes, artificial grass! It’s the easy and effective way to makeover your lawn through a simple installation process. Virtually any lawn area is suitable for artificial grass, whether you want your entire lawn covered in green, or have an Asian style garden with stone that needs lush landscaping accents. The switch from a natural grass lawn to a synthetic grass lawn can mean major aesthetic changes. Not only do you eliminate overgrown lawns that resemble a scene from The Jungle Book, but you no longer have to worry about pesky weeds. Artificial turf lawns keep their lushness and greenness for several years. Also, brown spots and dead grass is no longer a concern with artificial grass.

One of the most significant factors in the process of engineering and manufacturing synthetic grass is how yarn is extruded. The way in which the yarns are composed contribute to the texture, feel, and overall aesthetic of the synthetic turf. Thus, knowing the process of yarn extrusion really puts into perspective the detailed process of creating realistic and beautiful artificial grass. With the new processes and technology for artificial grass yarn extrusion, state of the art turf products are readily available on the market today.

The polymers in which modern artificial grass products are comprised of help to create supple and natural grass. A combination of nylon, polypropylene, and polyethylene are the key ingredients used to comprise the yarns in synthetic grass. These polymers come in the form of pellets and are placed into a hopper. Other ingredients such as dye, ultraviolet protective solutions, stabilizers, and other additives are then added into the hopper as well. All of these ingredients are mixed thoroughly in a large steel mixer, which melts the pellets down into a pliable consistency like that of taffy. Once at this point, the extrusion process is ready to begin.

The yarn extrusion process starts with the thick consistency of polymers and additives being fed into an extruder. The extruder looks much like an enlarged perforated steel plate. The liquid mixture filters through these holes, creating long, thin strands, which are the basic makeup of the turf blades. These long strands are then carried through a water trough to harden and solidify. The strands are then sent through the carding machine to keep each yarn separate and be stretched. The machine continues to pull the yarn strands to increase durability, while attaining the ideal blade thickness, most comparable to natural grass. Then, these yarns are rolled into spools. When the spools are full, they are manually removed.

Synthetic grass lawns offer many benefits and advantages that classic real grass lawns do not offer. Through the evolution of the artificial grass industry, it is evident that many modern households have adopted synthetic turf lawns over natural grass lawns because of its many advantages. While the classic American imagery of a man taking pride in his lawn is still apparent, more and more households realize this image need not contain a lawnmower, nor a sprinkler system for that matter.
