Congratulations Laguna Turf

Though the California drought may be coming to an end, homeowners have not stopped wanting waterwise landscaping solutions. The promise of having a picturesque green lawn without the maintenance and expensive water bills has been more enticing than ever.

Our May 2017 “Install of the Month” winner, Laguna Turf, recently installed artificial grass for a Rossmoor resident, converting their front yard from natural grass to over 800 square feet of Synthetic Grass Warehouse’s Diamond Light Spring.

The homeowner’s natural lawn suffered significantly because of California’s mandated water restrictions. While searching for a drought-friendly solution, the homeowners specifically wanted something that would allow their pets to continue to play on. Artificial grass seemed to be the perfect solution for the homeowner, especially after learning that it was tough enough to withstand heavy traffic and was safe for kids and pets alike.

Laguna Turf, a southern California turf installer and landscape designer, has been the company to beat in this Rossmoor neighborhood. After bringing artificial grass to over 15 lawns around the area, an increasing number of homeowners see the realism of the turf and can’t seem to resist making the switch. “The neighbors see the turf in other yards on their street and are always amazed at how good it looks. A lot of our projects come from referrals because everyone wants it for themselves,” Enrique Tuccio, Laguna Turf owner, says.

“Every homeowner wants their house to look great from the street and since turf has become so realistic, everyone has the option to switch and enjoy the added benefits.” Tuccio says. “We give people a lawn replacement and landscape option that they can be proud of that will help them save time, money, and water!”

Congratulations Amazing Synthetic Greens

It’s pretty difficult for San Diego to be even more beautiful than it already is, with their great cityscape and sunny beaches. However, our April Install of the Month goes to Amazing Synthetic Greens & Lawns for their artificial grass installation at Bright Horizons preschool.

Using Diamond Pro Spring with TigerCool technology, they brought this San Diego preschool’s play area to life again. Diamond Pro Spring synthetic turf features a beautiful dual shade of field and lime green grass blades paired with a brown thatch layer to replicate the most natural of lawns.

Diamond Pro Spring turf is backed by the International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association. IPEMA promotes safety and in-depth information on issues regarding playground equipment and surfacing issues. Through rigorous third party testing, Diamond Pro Spring is one of the seven TigerTurf products that meets the requirements of the American Society for Testing Materials F1292 certification.

These preschoolers can now play free of the allergies and pesticides that natural lawns can carry. It even allows for extra padding to protect the children from falls and the turf backing is perforated so liquids can easily pass through with no added mess to the lawn! Diamond Pro Spring was a great choice for the heavy foot traffic this playground is likely to endure and it will look great for years to come.

We look forward to seeing more great installations from Amazing Synthetic Greens & Lawns in the future!

Congratulations EcoLawn

While 83% of California has finally lifted their drought status, Santa Barbara is still clinging to conservation efforts. Residents have been turning to the passionate people at EcoLawn to make sure their grass stays green, even without the water. Chloe Kirk, co-owner of EcoLawn, says, “We are environmentalists at heart and want to save water in any way we can.”

Jessica Girard, co-founder of EcoLawn, is a passionate environmental and sustainable business advocate. Beau Schmidt, another EcoLawn co-founder, hopes to help homeowners with the rising cost of water bills with each installation of artificial grass.

EcoLawn recently installed 3,300 sq ft. of Diamond Pro Spring, as well as a 300 sq ft. putting green using Nylon Putt 2-tone on a Mediterranean estate in Santa Barbara. The homeowners recently moved from the East Coast, where they were used to having a green lawn without the high water bill. They replaced their browning, dead grass with synthetic grass, a growing trend among Santa Barbara residents. “We had to walk up and down ten flights of stairs to complete this job,” Kirk says. “But now the family can enjoy outdoor time spent with their kids while practicing their golf game.”

EcoLawn loves turf, but they weren’t always artificial grass landscapers. “We have been a general contractor in Santa Barbara for 17 years. Since 2014, when EcoLawn began, we’ve installed over 300 water-free grass lawns. We now do everything from design to installation, offering synthetic grass, hardscaping, and more.”

They have seen tremendous growth in the past year and their focus has been shifting from primarily residential work to more commercial and school applications. “We approach every job from a water conservation and environmental standpoint. We work hard to optimize water savings, reduce runoff, increase drainage as well as create an aesthetically beautiful project,” Kirk said.

Hillside Pavers

Hillside Pavers, based out of Orange County, realized that adding artificial grass added an entirely new dimension to their landscaping projects. Owner Oscar Valente knew that artificial grass was a perfect match for their masonry services. “It really sets us apart and from other landscapers in the area, especially in the eyes of the homeowner,” Valente said. “We offer a multitude of services and we found that it really helps with the customer experience from beginning to end.”

Valente recently installed 1,575 sq. ft. of TigerTurf Pet Turf, a product sold exclusively through Synthetic Grass Warehouse. “They originally hired us to install new pavers surrounding the pool area,” Valente said. “Once we were finished, the homeowners mentioned they did not like the way their existing turf looked against the new pavers.” The homeowners had artificial grass previously installed but were unhappy with the product. “The old turf didn’t have proper drainage so everything would trickle down into the pool,” he said. “We decided to re-level the entire area before installing new synthetic grass for them.”

He said this is a perfect example of who his clientele are. “They’re always letting me know how much of a convenience this is for them – and they’re more comfortable going through one company to meet all of their needs instead of having several come in and out of their homes.” Valente believes that one company allows for better communication. “We explain each step – they almost feel like they are part of the installation,” he said. “We listen to them, help come up with a solution, then stick to it – there are no surprises here.”

Valente has been in the business for over 15 years before founding Hillside Pavers in 2015. He said that all of his installers are ICPI (Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute) certified –  their employees have received training on the latest standards and best practices related to the installation of interlocking concrete pavements. “Not many can say that they are earning a living off of their passions, but I can,” he said. “We aren’t doing this just for profit, the relationships we establish with each homeowner is invaluable.”

Congratulations Sunshine Surfacing

One community in Pennsylvania came together to give their community park a facelift that has been years overdue. The residents of Bloomfield hosted bake sales, car washes and other forms of fundraising for three years to give Friendship Play Park a new play surface.

“The park originally had poured-in place rubber surfacing which had expanded and cracked over the years due to the weather in Pennsylvania,” said Steve Cianflone, owner of Sunshine Surfacing, a local artificial grass installation company. “Artificial grass is a great alternative because it looks great and stays in place no matter the weather, all 365 days a year.” Cianflone used Everlast Tacoma Light found exclusively through Synthetic Grass Warehouse (SGW) because of its durability and plush appearance. The 4200 sq. ft. artificial grass conversion with was installed over the span of four days with three different teams. “We had a glue team, an install team and a cut and seaming team,” Cianflone said. “There were 130 inserts that needed to be cut around on the 10-yr-old play structure.”

Sunshine Surfacing has been installing artificial turf for over 10 years, with nearly 85 percent of their business being playgrounds. Cianflone said that he has encountered parents that have voiced safety concerns when it comes to artificial grass installation. “I explain that it isn’t the turf – it’s the infill, in particular rubber infill that is made from used tires which contain petroleum,” he said. “We have never used that type of infill – it’s just common sense.” He says there are many infill alternatives including the silica sand they use. He also suggests that parents ask to see the lead free certificates before an artificial grass installation provided by companies like Synthetic Grass Warehouse and to find an experienced installer. “We’ve done over three thousand installs in Pennsylvania alone,” he said. “Our jobs come from word of mouth and we are very proud of that.” Visit sunshinesurfacing.com or like their page on Facebook for adddtional project information.

Congratulations Turf Supply USA!

Artificial grass became a very appealing replacement for those who want the perfect, manicured lawn without the guilt of wasting water. The low-maintenance, money saving product has drought residents praising the man-made lawn.

While many tend to relate artificial grass with the drought, Houston homeowners are telling a different story. “Houston is the opposite when it comes to artificial grass,” said Keith Derington, founder of Turf Supply USA. “We install turf because people are tired of their pets always tracking mud around.”

You see, Houston gets rain. Lot and lots of rain.

“You would think rain would be great for grass but too much rain actually kills it,” Derington said. “Some cities have a dry problem, we have a wet problem.” He estimates that about 90 percent of the installs he does are for pet owners.

Derington says his most recent install was a little different because of the size. Turf Supply USA recently installed 1,875 sq. ft of Everlast Tacoma for a Houston yard. “Our customer was just flat out tired of keeping up with the maintenance that came with a yard that size,” Derington said.

The homeowner had to get permission from her HOA before installation and they requested a product that would resemble St. Augustine natural grass. “The Tacoma was the clear winner when it came to the selection,” Derington said.

Derington says that business is booming and many of his recent installs have been word of mouth. He believes it’s because of the attention to detail Turf Supply USA gives to each install and the warranty on labor. “It’s little things that matter like using crushed granite or a nailer board as our standard on every install,” Derington said. “We want to be a step above everyone else. Our installs look great and last for years to come.”

Congratulations Future Turf!

In a world that thrives on automation and computers, some businesses are going back to basics. Future Turf, an artificial grass installation company based out of Thousand Oaks, California, values the traditional way of dealing with customers, despite their name suggesting otherwise.“There are a lot of businesses that rely heavily on computers – automated messages, appointments through email, conversation through a computer screen – we wanted to bring back real people,” said Greg Abrams, owner of Future Turf.

It’s this belief that Abrams says keeps his customers happy. “We take a little longer than other install companies because we want to give that extra time to ensure our customers’ complete satisfaction,” he said.

It’s a tactic that seems to be working. “Almost all of our jobs are through word of mouth,” Abrams said. “We are very thankful for that. We are really busy and couldn’t be happier.”

Future Turf serves all of California. “There isn’t anywhere we won’t go. We found that people really appreciate the attention we give them,” Abrams said. “It’s the little things that make a big difference.” He believes this attention to detail is what keeps his customers coming back.

That is how the idea for this 1,700 square foot putting green came about. “He wanted to be able to just walk out into his backyard to practice his putting instead of going to the golf course,” he said.

Abrams installed Everlast Poly Putt 2-Tone and then added TigerTurf Diamond Pro Spring for the fringe, both products found through Synthetic Grass Warehouse. “We offer a product created from the most up to date technology but show that we are real people who actually care about the job,” Abrams said. “I think people really appreciate that.”

Congratulations PuttTek!

What started as a personal pursuit of passion has turned into a luxury putting course business for one Arizona competitor golfer. Camron Howell, co-owner of PuttTek, searched for a company that could install a personal putting course to practice his short game from home. He wanted a nine hole course so that he could play over and over again. After receiving multiple replies that there isn’t anyone who could do what he wanted, he decided to take matters into his own hands.

“Design and creativity has been something I’ve always been good at,” Howell said. “I designed my course, picked out the turf, and hired a crew to install it.” Howell used the same typography found on the traditional golf course. The course used a few different turf products – Everlast Nylon Putt 2-Tone, Everlast Poly Putt 2-Tone and TigerTurf Pet Turf found through Synthetic Grass Warehouse to achieve the desired look. This allowed for a different type of effect for the fairway, fringe and putting green. The crew had been so impressed by the outcome of the project, that they suggested Howell create his own business so that artificial grass companies could partner up and promote this type of installation.

Howell took their advice, and now PuttTek partners up with professional landscapers and design firms throughout the Southwest to integrate a customized PuttTek putting course into an overall landscape package.

Howell says that friends ask to come play all the time, which is just fine with him. “It’s fun for all ages,” he said. “It’s safe and it really is a work of art.” Howell believes that it’s the scoring component that makes his courses so popular. “It’s the same reason why people enjoy cornhole, billiards and ping pong,” he said. “It’s just another form of friendly competition.”

Congratulations, Texas Custom Turf!

Congratulations to Texas Custom Turf, our September 2016 Install of the Month!

The Austin based installer has over 20 years of combined experience in home construction, landscaping, and award winning customer service.

The company specializes in everything ‘turf’ – xeriscaping, putting greens, residential landscapes – but owner Chris Neighbors said that he has noticed a new trend when it comes to artificial grass. “We have mostly dealt with residential installations, but our last few installs have been commercial properties.”

The most recent commercial artificial grass project was an 11,500 sq ft install of Diamond Light Fescue at the Westwood Country Club in downtown Austin, TX. “This install took a little extra TLC and attention to detail,” Neighbors said. “The club has large oak trees all over the property which required a different drainer layer underneath the turf.”

Neighbors said that the end result was everything the owners wanted. “We always try to go the extra mile for all of our clients,” he said. “It’s really important to us because a large amount of our business is based on referrals from our jobs.”

Neighbors believes that more businesses are looking to artificial grass due to the large amount of residential installs. “We’ll install for a home and then that person will be the owner of a small business or go into work and talk about how great their lawn looks,” he said. “Artificial grass really has some great benefits other than just saving water, it cuts back on the time and money spent maintaining a traditional lawn.”

Congratulations, Anchor Turf!

Congratulations to our August 2016 Install of the Month, Anchor Turf! Don’t let the two-year old company fool you, what they lack in age, they make up for in knowledge and experience!

The Orange County based installer recently placed a 700 sq. ft. installation of Synthetic Grass Warehouse Diamond Pro Spring turf in Dana Point. The installation required raising the yard to make it appear larger. They also replaced the driveway, which was heavily damaged and cracked due to tree roots, with concrete and blackstone to give the entire landscape a whole different dimension and purpose. The added feature was a putting green for their oldest child, who started to show an interest in golf.

“This installation is the perfect example of why difficult jobs require an experienced team,” Hesley said. “The family is very happy with the results.”

Customer satisfaction is a top priority for the two-year-old company. “It only takes one bad job to ruin your reputation,” Hesley said. “We put our best into each installation, and we will continue to put in our due diligence as we grow and need to find new crew members.”
